I am working as a junior make up artists, and I write these entries and corresponding videos with a purpose of helping answer many questions us women have when it comes to the topic of make-up. For last week’s entry, we talked about the seven different face shapes. This time around, I’ll be talking about the facial imperfections most of us have, and how to cover it up. So let’s face the honest truth; most of us women have facial imperfections that we’re insecure about. From redness and blemishes, to scars and dark circles under the eyes, there’s one too many things on the list I can name. Fortunately for us, we have the power of make-up to help create the illusion of the flawless skin we dream of.

The visual assistance to help understand color theory is the color wheel. It’s set with the three primary colors (red, yellow, blue), secondary colors (combining two primary colors together which gives us orange, green, and violet), and the six tertiary colors (combining a primary color and a secondary color next to it which are yellow-orange, orange-red, red-violet, violet-blue, blue-green, and green-yellow.

We’ll go into more detail on the color wheel and skin tones later on in my blog, but for now, we’re going to be focusing more on something called complimentary colors. Complimentary colors are the colors opposite to one another on the color wheel. How this works when it comes to using corrective make-up, mixing these two colors produces a neutral gray. This means that it will cancel out the color you do not like on your skin. For example, having redness in the skin, you want to apply a color corrector that has an undertone of green to neutralize the redness. Another example can be the dark circles under your eyes. Depending on whether or not they have a blue or purple undertone, you can diminish the circles by using an orange color corrector for the blue undertone, and a yellow color corrector for the purple undertone.

Because I have a fairly dark tone skin and do not have much tonal difference, for the make-up I usually do for myself, I’m a regular foundation-concealer kind of girl. So to finish off, I will go over how I normally do my makeup. First things first, I always do my eye make-up before my face. I do it as a preference, but obviously every woman is different. Now keep in mind, my make-up consists of drug store brands as well as some upscale brands. The make-up I use is what I personally picked out for myself and it’s what I’m used to. The way I also apply it is in my favor… It may not be the right way, but it’s the way I’m most comfortable with.

After my eye-make up, I prep my face by putting a primer on before applying anything to my face. Now when it comes to the age old question of which comes first, the foundation or concealer, I’ve noticed that from all the research I’ve read through, it really all comes down to how much you’re trying to conceal. As for me, I’ve always put foundation on before my concealer, since I also use my concealer as a highlighter and using it a little bit to correct slight tonal difference.

That is it for this entry.
